Inspired by the Hope Collective and the cultural diversity of Peckham, the garden is envisaged as a symphony of voices to heal and enhance the heart of Peckham Square.  Visiting the site the need for a significant green space is very apparent, both to rejuvenate a space currently characterised by a vast expanse of hard paving and to provide a much needed restful, biodiverse and inspiring place in the heart of a busy and vibrant part of the city.
The garden is conceived as a field of green that is carved and imprinted by ‘voice curves’ to create a playful composition of pathways, alcoves, groves, planting beds, lawns and art work.  The undulating and sinuous forms together with the existing trees creates a new, enveloping habitat focused on the well-being of visitors, biodiversity, art and culture.  The abundance of green space reduces the local heat island effect and sets a precedent of the re-greening of many public and estate spaces in the area.
Animated pathways  with gathering spaces link Peckham High Street to Peckham Library and Peckham Platform whilst complimenting the four new plazas. A significant, collaboratively designed art work, celebrating the legacy of Damilola Taylor and his family is proposed to form a screen wall to the existing carpark and enhance the garden as a destination within Peckham.
The planting celebrates youth and the cultural diversity of Peckham, whilst providing a biodiverse ‘green room’ of peace and tranquillity.
